چکیده
CLINICAL CHEMISTRY, Vol. 27, No. 1, 1981 197 the use of this reagent or the commercial Beckman reagent, showed no significant bias. In addition, we observed no discrepancies in our quality control pool determinations or ADC numbers. We conclude that this creatinine reagent performs well and that the added diethylamine provides a simple and effective means of preventing precipitate formation for at least one month. Single-spin density-gradient ultracentrifugation vs gradient gel electrophoresis: two methods for detecting low-density-lipoprotein heterogeneity compared.
Single-spin density-gradient ultracentrifugation (DUC) has proven to be a reproducible method for detection of low-density-lipoprotein (LDL) heterogeneity. Recently another method has been described for this: gradient gel electrophoresis (GGE) of serum, a method that might be more suitable for screening. To gain insight into the relationship of GGE to DUC and into their reproducibility, we dete...
متن کاملAssociations of three erythrocyte cation transport systems with plasma lipids in Utah subjects.
To investigate the pathophysiology of essential hypertension, detailed biochemical and clinical variables were collected and analyzed for 2091 Utah subjects aged 3 to 83 years. Three different measurements of erythrocyte cation transport were obtained: Na+-Li+ countertransport, Li+-K+ cotransport, and furosemide-insensitive Li+ efflux into MgCl2. Total plasma cholesterol, triglycerides, and hig...
متن کاملLow density lipoprotein subfractions and relationship to other risk factors for coronary artery disease in healthy individuals.
By a recently developed sensitive density gradient ultracentrifugation method, the distribution of low density lipoprotein (LDL) subfractions was studied in the serum of healthy blood donors (20 to 62 years old). For each subject, we observed a specific LDL subfraction distribution characterized by the relative contribution of the three major LDL subfractions, LDL-1 (1.020 to 1.028 g/ml), LDL-2...
متن کاملThe composition of low-density lipoprotein and very-low-density lipoprotein subfractions in primary hypothyroidism and the effect of hormone-replacement therapy.
1. The lipid and protein composition of subfractions of plasma low-density lipoprotein (LDL) has been determined in nine patients with primary hypothyroidism before and after 3 months of thyroxine therapy. Analyses were also made of subfractions of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) in four of the patients. 2. Before therapy seven of the patients had elevated LDL-cholesterol and two had increa...
متن کاملApolipoprotein E polymorphism influences lipid phenotypic expression, but not the low density lipoprotein subfraction distribution in familial combined hyperlipidemia.
The impact of apo E polymorphism on interindividual variation in plasma lipid, lipoprotein concentrations, and LDL subfraction profiles was studied in 201 well-defined patients (88 men and 103 women) with familial combined hyperlipidemia (FCH). When corrected for the concomitant influences of age, gender and obesity, the allelic variation in the apo E gene was shown to explain a statistically s...
